The Aftermath

The last few weeks of our relationship had been torture, but as I felt it end, my heart felt torn in two. I couldnt escape the fact I loved him. He'd been who I ran to in times of need, and who I could laugh with when I was bored. His kisses had been like a drug to me, and when I felt them change I knew something would turn.
The inevitable happened, and I stare at my hands, clutching them to my chest, expecting blood to ooze out from what feels like an open wound. The tears have only stopped flowing, and my cheeks feel crusted with salt.
The world around me seems darker now. But I feel free. You may have left me with freedom, but you took part of my heart as payment. I dont think I could ever completely get over you. But I'll force myself to. For as long as it takes.
